August 15, 2014
By KCS Staff
Clockwise (from top right): Mr. Kurian, Mr. Wilcox, Mr. Miller, and Mrs. Dugger.

Despite some uncertainty caused by two impending tropical storms last week, KCS staff were excited to open up the 2014-15 school year on Monday.  Our student body of 318 includes 61 new students as well as several new staff members.

Lindy Dugger joins our staff as the new Grade 2B teacher.  She and her family moved to Hawaii in January. Previously, she taught for 6 years in Omaha, Nebraska.  Her last year of teaching had her on site at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo!

Ashok Kurian joins our middle/high school team as the new Grade 8B homeroom teacher.  He will be teaching 8th grade science & Bible, and Biology.  He previously worked as Program Manager/Career Counselor for Kupu and taught ESL and secondary science at Sacred Hearts Academy.

Scott Miller joins our middle/high school team as the new Grade 10 homeroom teacher.  He will be teaching Algebra I, Chemistry, Precalculus, and Physics.  As a meteorologist, he looks forward to “teaching the fun part of math and science.”  He and his family visited 26 states over the summer.

Stephen Wilcox is a familiar face for returning students.  He spent the fall  of 2013 student teaching here and worked in the spring as a substitute teacher.  He will be our Lead Recess Supervisor and teaching Chorus for middle/high school.  He looks forward to building our Chorus program and preparing students to perform during concerts.

We are also blessed to have JoAnna Fong join our staff on a part-time basis.  She will be teaching World Literature, Asian Literature, and Speech.  She has 11 years of teaching experience in Hawaii’s private and public schools and looks forward to building relationships with students and staff.

We are so excited that God has brought all of these individuals to KCS!
