Classroom Connection: 3rd Grade Garden

October 13, 2014
By KCS Staff
Students from 3B are all smiles after watering their garden and planting kale.

Tucked away by the ‘Ekahi House, fronting Mahina Avenue, is a small garden under the care of our 3rd graders.  As well as giving the students a fun outdoor activity, the garden project is tied various classroom subjects, from science to Bible.  Miss Narimatsu’s 3B class has also used the garden for adjective practice in writing exercises. Miss Sun’s 3A class is growing herbs and plans to come up with a recipe that incorporates those ingredients.

The garden has built community within both classes and given the students a sense of stewardship.  Volunteers go down to the garden during recess times to water the plants and those with a strong interest in the project will check plant growth. Both classes look forward to enjoying the fruit of their labor in the coming months!
