The boys push hard during one of Pastor Valente's upper body conditioning drills.

It’s game day!  The boys and girls volleyball teams open up their season tonight. This is KCS’ 4th year as a member of the Hawaii Sports Fellowship League.

The teams, coached by Mr. Kwong and Mr. Seria, have spent practices working on the basics - serving and passing.  As well as emphasizing the fundamentals of the game, the coaches have set a 75% proficiency mark as the baseline goal.  Pastor Valente also works with the players on strength and conditioning twice a week.

With a core group of returning players, the girls team looks to make a strong showing in the league.  The boys team welcomes several new faces and has focused on basic concepts in preparation for games. Overall, Mr. Kwong sees “good talent on the court.”

The KCS ‘ohana is encouraged to cheer on the teams as they face Koolau Baptist tonight. First serve for the boys is at 6:30 pm with the girls game immediately following.  Today’s game at Ft. Ruger gym is one of three home game scheduled this month.

Despite the shorter season this year (five games), the girls team hopes to capitalize on participating at an all-day tournament this Saturday.  Tournament play will be a great opportunity for players to gain experience in a short amount of time. Go, KCS!
