Mrs. Takahashi, middle school Science and Math teacher, received a $200 grant from the Chevron Education Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation.  She was recognized on Saturday, September 12, during the Hawaii Science Teacher Association Conference.  A total of $27,000 was given to 27 Hawaii Science Teachers from Chevron.  This was Mrs. Takahashi’s first time applying for this grant.

In her grant proposal, “An Outbreak of Student Detectives,” Mrs. Takahashi outlines how two Flinn Scientific lab kits will enhance an upcoming 6th grade science unit on the immune system.  The kits allow students to engage in the lesson through hands-on, problem solving activities.  Mrs. Takahashi writes, “These activities will give students opportunities to explore real-life situations and communicate their results through discussion and writing.”
