Basketball Season Tips Off Tonight

By KCS Staff

This year’s Hawaii Sports Fellowship (HSF) boys and girls basketball teams look forward to their season opener against Trinity Christian School tonight.  Expectations are high, as the teams look to play more physically and competitively and develop different aspects of their game.

The teams have practiced since November, and coaches Mr. Miller and Mr. Kurian have observed more focus, drive, and improved teamwork this year.  In addition to strength and conditioning twice a week, the teams practice at several community parks to take advantage of the full court.  Coaches have noted this has given the players a “much better sense of the court” both on offense and defense.

Tryouts in November drew a number of interested middle and high school boys. This led the way to creating a “new” 6th and 7th grade team.  They practice separately and will play their own schedule of games.  Mr. Kurian and Mr. Miller enjoy the unity, camaraderie, positive attitudes, and “the right amount of spark” of this younger team.

Cheer on the HSF teams as they open up league play tonight on KCS’  “home court” at Ft. Ruger Gym.  Girls will tip off at 6 pm, while the boys will start at approximately at 7:15 pm.  The 6th/7th boys play their first game at Kalihi Union Church next Saturday afternoon.  Go, KCS!
