High School Solo & Ensemble Festival

January 29, 2016
By KCS Staff

Six high school students performed instrumental pieces at the annual Solo & Ensemble Festival on Sunday, January 24. Many had practiced individually or as a group since September.

At the event, musicians were judged on tone, dynamics, articulation, and musicality. All of KCS’ participants received at least one medal, reflecting a high score for their individual or ensemble selections.

The opportunity to perform at the Solo & Ensemble Festival gives students a chance to receive a critique of their music ability, as judges are either professional musicians or university professors. As well as building the students’ confidence and experience in performance, Music/Band teacher Mr. Kanakanui notes, “[Solo & Ensemble] encourages students to collaborate with their peers to accomplish a common goal.”
