KCS volleyball fans were treated to exciting victories last week Saturday at Kaneohe District Park.

Despite Koolau Baptist Academy’s comeback effort, the girls’ team won (25-13, 24-26, 15-10) their first game of the season thanks to solid play in set 3.  KBA battled back in set 2, scoring the last 4 points to claim the set in extra play.  Coach Seria said, “In the 3rd set, the team settled down and put the ball in play.”

The girls’ team has taken on a new identity this year after losing the majority of their starters to graduation.  On the other hand, the boys’ team returns a number of experienced players.  Coaches Mr. Kwong and Mr. Seria have worked with the teams since the end of last school year, as practices started in the Spring and continued through the Summer.  Players also had the opportunity to participate in scrimmages and “open gym,” helping to solidify rotations and passing formations.

Extra practices paid off for the boys, as they overcame losing a tightly contested set 1 and a deficit in set 2.  After several exciting rallies in set 3, the boys pulled ahead to win the match (27-29, 25-23, 15-10).
