The four members of the Class of 2018, KCS's third graduating class, are nearing the home stretch of their college counseling journey. At KCS, the college counseling process begins as early as freshman year, and for these seniors, their hard work culminated during the fall semester, as they solidified their list of colleges, completed applications, and secured the requisite teacher recommendations. All applications were successfully submitted by November 15 in order to meet early action and priority deadlines.

Amidst a flurry of acceptance letters in the past three months, the Class of 2018 has garnered $2.2 million worth of 4-year merit scholarship offers from colleges. This semester, they have worked on applying for additional local and national scholarships as well as practicing their interview skills. Balancing their KCS senior year coursework with one class per semester at Kapiolani Community College has further prepared them for their studies beyond high school.

Resources for KCS's College Counseling program have developed through the years and include Naviance (a web-based tool to manage and track career and college planning), College Counselor Mrs. Watanabe, and Consultant Dan Feldhaus. KCS has hosted several college admissions officers on campus, giving students an opportunity to ask questions and learn about colleges they may not have originally considered. Throughout the test prep, essay writing, college tours, and financial considerations, KCS hopes its students will seek institutions that are the right fit. The Class of 2018 is certainly headed in the right direction!
