A “kind JAG officer... a musical cyber security expert... a courageous engineer... a compassionate computer animator... a friendly physical therapist... a generous neurosurgeon... an empathetic architect... a philosophical minister... a joyful teacher... a humble Renaissance man... an athletic computer science expert... and a dependable nurse”: these are the hopes and dreams for the class of 2019, as shared by Salutatorian, Emily Kuwaye, and Valedictorian, Elise Kuwaye, on Wednesday, May 22 at their graduation ceremony. With humor and self-deprecation, as well as conviction and pathos, they looked back on their years at KCS and looked forward to their years in college.

Commencement speaker Kainoa Valente challenged this last inaugural class of KCS to be “elite, but not elitist” and follow the model of servant leadership set by Jesus. As they are an accomplished group of young men and women, he further reminded them that their lives are their “first argument” when sharing their faith with others.

Before expressing their gratitude and affection for their beloved family and teachers, the class of 2019 also premiered their “Friends”-inspired short film, demonstrating their close bond with each other, as well as their distinct personalities as individuals. Their class gift of twelve painted tiles surrounding their group photo further illustrates this point. We are so proud of this special class of graduates!
