"Fun" and "fast" are the words students are using to describe the two slides, which utilize the gentle slope from the 1st floor Gallagher classrooms to the turf on Grassy Island. Monday, October 21, marked the opening of this new play feature, as students in preschool through 1st grade were eager to try out the new embankment slides.

During Fall Break, InspiredPlay Hawaii, the same company that replaced the main play structure on Blue Island in August, completed the installation of these colorful slides. For several years, Grassy Island only had one operational slide, and school leaders were excited for this opportunity to replace the remaining slide and add back the second slide. This dual slide setup not only accommodates more riders but also enhances the social aspect of play, as students can slide down together and share about their experiences on the slides.

The upgrades to both Blue Island and Grassy Island mark the completion of the school's 2019 Playground Enhancement Project. The project was made possible by generous funding support from the Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation, Atherton Foundation, and Cooke Foundation, Limited.
