A Christmas Concert Week

December 16, 2013
By KCS Staff
Choir was introduced into the music curriculum for middle and high school student this year.

The weeks leading up to Christmas break bring much excitement and joy to our campus. Classrooms are filled with festive activities and songs of the season. Christmas programs by all grade levels are the highlight of our first semester!

"Mary Had a Baby"

Our middle and high school students entertained friends and family last week Wednesday evening. The 6th grade band and 7th to 10th grade band opened up the concert. Mr. Kanakanui recognized students who currently participate with the Hawaii All-State Marching Band. Skylar Yoshimoto, Heather Yamauchi, and Nichole Yamauchi (as well as former student Kolby Au) will be marching in the Rose Bowl Parade on New Years Day. After intermission, students performed choral selections, displaying the fruit of choir being introduced into their curriculum this year.

"Jingle Bells"
3rd to 5th graders shined during their concert last week Thursday. 3rd and 4th grade students displayed their mastery singing and playing their recorders. 5th graders were excellent on their ukulele, singing and playing two Hawaiian songs. They also shared verses in Hawaiian and English. All grades performed "Jingle Bells" together as their finale.

"The Colors of Christmas"
Our youngest students were adorable during their program on Friday morning. The color theme was woven throughout the songs and narration. Red, green, black, blue, white, and yellow all symbolize important parts of the Christmas story. May the colors of Christmas help us to remember to celebrate Jesus, God’s precious gift of love!

"The Incredible, Gigantic, Humongous, VeggieTales Christmas Show!"
Our kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders wowed us with their singing on Friday afternoon. With the help of the popular animated characters from VeggieTales, students clearly shared the true meaning of Christmas. With the mix of fun and traditional songs, the students were truly delightful in their performance. Bravo to our kindergarten students who played different roles in the manger scene!

Christmas Cheer in Kaimuki

Our high schoolers lead the way with the KCS banner!

Last night, over 100 students, staff, and parents joined the community in welcoming the Christmas season during the 67th annual Kaimuki Business and Professional Association’s Christmas Parade. Participants marched from St. Louis High School to Koko Head Avenue, spreading Christmas cheer along Waialae Avenue.

Led by Mr. Kanakanui, our fourth graders (on recorders) and fifth graders (on ukulele) marched while playing and singing Christmas carols. They sounded great together, as their hard work during practice sessions around the KCS block had paid off!
