Students Shine in Christmas Programs

Sharing the joy of Christmas through music and song!

Silent Night
Middle/high school band and chorus students shared their musical talents on Wednesday evening.  This was the debut of our Chorus elective class.  They sang three Spirituals with the help of student accompanists Daniel Gibson, Bryan Hasselman, and Michelle Shuai.  Band students performed in sectional groups, allowing each musician to shine.  Sixth graders shared both instrumental and vocal songs, joining the middle/high school chorus for the finale song, “Silent Night.”

Jingle Bells
Last night, 3rd to 5th graders entertained their audience with a selection of traditional Christmas carols and hymns.  3rd and 4th graders played their recorders, while 5th graders strummed together on their ukulele.  Maverick Maeda and Usaburo Mendenhall wowed the audience with their ukulele duet of  “Hawaii Five-O.”

Counting Down to Christmas
This morning, preschool students shared the wonder of the Christmas story through counting, as corresponding songs describe 4 shepherds, 3 angels, and 2 parents.  Ultimately, the story narrows down to one child and the most important part of the Christmas story, Jesus!

Christmas Caroling
The stage was transformed into a street lined with houses at Christmas time.  Each house, decorated by classes in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, “opened” up to share a Christmas carol with the audience.  The students exuded the true joy of caroling in their performance.  Bravo!

Basketball Season Preview

December 05, 2014
By KCS Staff
Players go through a series of passing drills in early November.
KCS basketball tips off a little earlier this year, as our girls and boys teams play their first game tonight against Koolau Baptist Academy.

Coaching the teams this year are Mr. Kurian and Mr. Miller, who are both motivated to share their own basketball experience with students and make an impact in their lives outside of the classroom.

The teams have practiced together since the first week of November.  The coaches have focused on ball control, accurate passes, and high percentage shots.  Although the team is young, coaches have identified teachable attitudes and teamwork as strengths of their players.  They have also seen improvement in ball control and increased endurance throughout the first few weeks of practice.

Displaying a Christ-like attitude through the season is one of the goals put forth by the coaches, as they have adopted Colossians 3:17 as the team verse.  According to the coaches, the verse challenges the team to “portray Christ’s attitude toward the other team during games with our words and with our sportsmanship.”

Come cheer on our teams as they open up league play on our “home court” at Ft. Ruger Gym.  Girls will tip off at 6 pm, while the boys will start at approximately at 7:15 pm.  Go, KCS!

Update: Our girls battled hard in the 4th quarter but lost 31-35 to KBA.  KBA beat our boys 73-38.
