Middle and high school students enjoy snacks after their laps around the block.

For the 35th year, the entire KCS ‘ohana gathered together to remember the lives of Kyle, Lenn, and Joey and raise funds for the scholarship fund.  The students ran/walked with this cause in mind, exuding a positive attitude.

Over 130 students raised $80 or more to earn a limited edition 2015 Walkathon shirt. Students worked hard to share the stories of Kyle, Lenn, and Joey and collect pledges from families and friends.  Thanks to everyone’s collective effort, over $18,500 will be added to the scholarship fund.  The scholarship fund continues to make an impact on the lives many KCS families.

The Walkathon would not be possible without a true team effort. Special thanks to the parents that served to make today’s event a huge success!

Ms. Yokomizo shows off this year's Walkathon shirt design.

Friday, April 24 marks the 35th year KCS will preserve the loving memories of Kyle, Lenn, and Joey through the annual Walkathon. Kyle Schumacher, Lenn Kawamura, and Joey Yoshikawa each died of cancer while attending KCS.  Since the boys loved their time at KCS, their families wanted to preserve their memory through a Scholarship Fund for students who would not be able to attend KCS without financial assistance. Each year, thousands of dollars are added to the Scholarship Fund through the Walkathon.  Last year, students raised over $20,300.

Students raising $80 - 99 will receive this year’s Walkathon shirt, designed by middle school students Sarah Kitamura and Kala’i Fisher. Those who raise $100 - 149 will also receive a KCS uniform shirt. Students who raise over $150 will be awarded a Walkathon shirt as well as a KCS monogrammed polo shirt. The top 3 fund-raisers will be entered into a drawing for a KCS monogrammed jacket.

On the day of the Walkathon, the younger students will walk around the KCS playground and McKenzie House while the older students will run/jog/walk around the KCS block.

Students were sent home with an envelope to collect funds.  It includes information about each of the boys and the history of the Scholarship Fund that can be shared as students seek pledges. Encourage friends and family to be a part of this worthy cause! Donations can also be made online.
